Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a student of History and Asian Studies at the University of Mary Washington. I first came upon my interest in history as a subject early in life–it was one of the classes I did very well in early on, which encouraged me to keep at it. Studying Colonial American history over and over again in my K-12 schooling fostered my fascination with foreign history because it was something entirely new. Reading about pre-Colonial American history interested me as well because it too was something not taught much at all in primary school.

While my school does a focus on China and Japan in the Asian Studies minor, my real interests regarding that area is Korean history. I first became aware of Korea through South Korean music (“K-Pop” as it is called). Through that, I learned bits and pieces of ┬áKorean culture and history through articles and books. Since then, Korean history and culture has been a big interest of mine, and even though I may have to learn about it on my own for now, I am up for that adventure!
